Cerakote: Performance Coatings for Performance Bicycles
Cycling enthusiasts are constantly on the lookout for innovative equipment, designs, or new and advanced features to improve their performance or the bike's performance. Whether it's the shape of bike frames or lightweight components and accessories, new technologies are the driving force behind most improvements in the cycling world. Cerakote's ceramic coating brings a robust, durable, and revolutionary finish to the bicycle industry.
Performance Characteristics of Cerakote Coatings
Cerakote ceramic coatings offer a number of superior properties for bicycles and bicycle parts.
Abrasion and Scratch Resistant
Cerakote's coating is extremely resistant to mechanical wear, such as impacts and scratches.
Low Friction
The DFL (Dry-Film Lubricant) ceramic coating has self-lubricating properties with an extremely low and approx. twice as good coefficient of friction as, for example, Teflon.
Corrosion Resistance
Cerakote coatings effectively protect the surfaces of bicycles and bicycle parts from rust and corrosion.
Chemical resistance
Cerakote coatings are resistant even to aggressive cleaning agents and solvents.
Liability
Cerakote coatings adhere to almost all surfaces, such as steel, aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber, polymers, and other surfaces.
Thin-film ceramic coating
With a layer thickness of only 6-50 µm, these coatings are ideal for parts with very small tolerances and allow for a weight reduction compared to other paints and powder coatings.
Applications on bicycles and bicycle parts
Cerakote ceramic coatings can be used for various solutions, including:
Ultralight Coating
The thin-layer application of Cerakote enables a significant weight reduction compared to other paints and powder coatings.
Thin-Film Technology
Cerakote has a low film thickness of only 6-50 µm. This makes the coating ideal for all bicycle parts where low weight and tight tolerances are important.
Liability
Cerakote can be used on any non-rubberized surface and can therefore be applied anywhere on the bike: frame, rims, handlebars, sprockets, and much more.
Unique
Cerakote offers limitless color options for all parts of the bow. By combining different colors or laser-engraving patterns, there are no limits to creativity.
Easy-gliding
The innovative self-lubricating coating (DFL-200) is ideal for all bicycle parts where extremely low resistance is of great importance. The PFAS-free coating has been proven to have a friction coefficient approximately twice as low as Teflon.
Perfect Fit
Cerakote ceramic coatings are military-grade, surpassing all other coating types, such as anodizing or powder coating. Cerakote reduces wear on moving parts, improves durability, and also offers numerous color options.
Durability
Cerakote's unique ceramic technology makes the bicycle's coated surfaces extremely resistant to chemicals, UV rays, sweat, impacts, blows, scratches, and much more.
Disadvantages of traditional bicycle paints and why Cerakote is better than conventional bicycle paint
When buying mountain bikes or road bikes, many cyclists agree that the overall weight of the bike is one of the most important purchasing attributes. Cerakote is a thin-film, ceramic-based single coating (10 – 40 µm). This results in a weight reduction of two to four hundred grams (on average) compared to powder coatings or other paint-based coating systems.
Whether for racing or leisure, road bikes and off-road bikes, especially mountain bikes, are exposed to heavy wear. Cerakote is a ceramic-based performance coating. Cerakote offers industry-leading durability, hardness, scratch resistance, and chemical resistance that protects the entire finish of your bike. Cerakote is not susceptible to chipping or blistering common in existing paints. It is completely chemical resistant and will not be affected by chemicals such as road oil, tar, chain lubricant, or brake fluid.
In addition, Cerakote's chemical composition offers rust protection properties, providing exceptional protection for small mechanical parts. Furthermore, its low coefficient of friction and lubricity mean less wear on moving parts, which can dramatically improve durability while supporting an overall smoother ride. Reduced friction also means improved mechanical efficiency.
Both the Cerakote Elite and H-Series are suitable for most bicycle frame repairs and/or manufacturing. There are endless possibilities for customization on frames, forks, handlebars, stems, seatposts, rims, hubs, spokes, and other small parts.
